National Theatre & Speak Up

Cruising Beyond Alienation workshop for 100 secondary school teachers at the National Theatre for Speak Up, November 2023.
Participants used the interactive artwork called ‘The Spaceship (2020,)’ a huge mobile fabric mural which is activated through games, grounding rituals and embodied gestures of release.
The Spaceship facilitated discussions on alienation within mainstream education and how teachers can imagine moving beyond it. This informed the makinga Bobolee: a Trinidadian effigy used for ritual, each limb representing various systemic obstacles the group identified as barriers preventing them from connecting with each other and students.
